Ego VS Spirit?

What is an ego?

The ego is our sense of self and “I”

“I am [your name]”

“I have [ money, possessions, house, job, car, spouse, children, mother, father, wealth, success]”

“I think that [insert a thought]”

Taoists call the ego the lower soul because it believes it’s in charge. The ego experiences itself as separate from everything and anyone else.

The ego or the lower soul is primarily driven by external pleasures, domination, a need to be always “right”, and negative emotions. The egos appetite is never ending because it comes from a place of fear. It’s a social mask that you have created for yourself, but that is not who you really are.

Fortunately, everyone has a Higher Soul, Spirit or Higher Self that is connected to the divine. Our higher souls are based on compassion, empathy, understanding and comes from a place of love.

The ego accumulates knowledge through learning and “always needing to be right/ the best/etc”, while the Spirit initiates reality by what it is. To sum it up: the ego thinks but the Spirit knows. The ego is always busy doing, the Spirit remains eternally in a state of being.

Since the majority of us tend to identify exclusively with the ego, we often don't hear our Spirit calling us back home. When we go thru a spiritual awakening, the ego begins to divert to the Spirit. Basically what happens at this point is the lower soul merges into the higher soul. This is referred to as psychic wholeness.

How does this happen?

It usually doesn't happen in a single moment of awakening, rather over time and stages of psycho- spiritual growth. These permanent stages tend to develop over time and depend on your state of perception and consciousness. Some of us can experience "peak awakenings" that opens us up to self-transcendent reality, however these experiences tend to be temporary when in the moment.

These "peak awakenings" can happen during meditation, while in nature, working out or using psychedelic substances; but these experience are temporary. At this point, the consciousness of the individual hasn't changed they have just had a spiritual experience to open them up to this new reality and the endless possibilities.

What are your experiences with Ego vs Spirit? Did you have any "peak awakenings" that changed your reality?
