How to Protect Yourself from Other People’s Negative Energy?

When you spend time with negative people, you know how quickly you can absorb their negative mentality.


Oftentimes it happens subconsciously and we don't even realize it. If you are feeling overwhelmed with negative energy from others here is a list of ways to stop it from happening:


Distance yourself from the negativity


Give yourself some space from the negativity: take a walk, get outside, go for a lunch break, do whatever makes you feel better.


All it takes is a few minutes to regroup your thoughts, feelings and emotions to remind yourself that their negativity isn't your negativity.


Breathe It Out!


When you are overwhelmed by negative energy or emotions, take a few minutes to regulate your breathing and reset your thoughts. I like to use ocean breath: which is a way of breathing that promotes the flow of life-force prana energy throughout the body. The breath is a smooth, long inhalation followed by an exhalation which the muscles at the back of the throat are tightened. This breathing technique creates a sound similar to ocean waves.

Meditate Daily


Take a few minutes to sit quietly in your own head if negative energy is flowing over you. During meditation you can block the negative thoughts and welcome the positive energy and emotions in your life.


Identify Whose Emotion is Present


It's important to identify the source when negative thought or emotion takes over you. Can you differentiate if it's your own negative emotion or someone else?


When it's yours, you can work through these emotions. If it's someone else's, you need to let it go as it's not your burden to carry.

Wash it Off


I recommend that you take a shower or cleansing bath if you feel physically and mentally drained from negativity.

When you do this you are physically washing away the negative energy, while relaxing yourself at the same time. It's a win- win. I like to take himalayan sea salt baths that help me feel cleansed of negative energy in my body. I put in a cup of sea salt, light candles and listen to high vibration meditation music before bed. This promotes a restful night's sleep and I wake up feeling refreshed and relaxed.



Respond mindfully – don’t just react!


Don't feed into other people's negativity. You don't need to correct someone who is being negative, oftentimes it triggers them into more negativity and wastes your energy.


Instead I would recommend you respond to their negativity with a positive response. Oftentimes, it is enough to get them to realize their own negativity. Remember it's not your job to try to change them! They have to WANT to change themselves and you or anyone else can't do that for them.



Be the Best Version of Yourself!


By becoming a better version of yourself, you can help inspire the negative people in your life to get a grip on their own lives. When you lead by example, you create a picture of what's possible. People can look at you and say, "Well, if she/he can do it, I can do it too!"


It is important to remember that you can't change someone's negative perspective. You need to focus your time, and energy on yourself instead of worrying about changing other negative people.


My family is very negative, and growing up with them made me a negative person too. It took me a lot of time, dedication and commitment to changing my mindset to positive. I am living proof it can be done, but YOU have to want to change! Your future's NOT set in stone, you have control over your life and circumstances. You are the creator of your own reality!

Face whatever is holding you back head on and it no longer has power over you, you have power over it! Awareness and anything can't co exist. Awareness is more powerful than your ego, your emotions, your thoughts and your feelings. Awareness is what gets you back home to your soul purpose.


You can use your pain and turn it into power. If you are willing to work on where your pain comes from, the lesson to be learned and turn your knowledge into action, you can use your suffering to turn you into a stronger and wiser person!
