8 Meditation Techniques That Cultivate Mindfulness ✅

Mindfulness is being fully present and engaged with that you are doing at the moment. It involves being free from judgement, distraction, being aware of our feelings, thoughts and emotions in the present "now." In doing this we are teaching the mind to be present - which is very helpful when we are faced with difficult situations or circumstances.

Below is a breakdown of 8 mindfulness techniques, see which ones will work best for you.

1. Focused Attention: Use your breath to anchor the mind and maintain awareness. Pay attention to your breath- including the inhale and exhale of your chest as you are breathing in and out. Always return to your breath when you get distracted and your mind begins to wander.

2. Visualization: Use this technique to hold attention to a specific person or something abstract like a beach, forest or sunset. Doing this will help you create and maintain a relaxed focus.

3. Noting: This is a mindfulness technique where you "note" when a particular emotion, thought or feeling enters your mind and becomes a distraction during meditation. By doing this you will understand and become aware about your own tendencies, habits and conditioning.

4. Skillful Compassion: Use this to focus on a person you love and become aware of the sensation that arises from the heart. This technique helps to open the heart and mind for the benefit of other people, that brings us a feeling of happiness, bliss and love in our own mind.

5. Loving Kindness: This technique involves focusing on different people rather than focus on the breath: people we like, people we don't; people we know, people we don't. We start off by directing love, compassion, goodwill and well wishes to ourselves first, then to others. Doing this helps us to let go of unhappy feelings that we may be experiencing at the time.

6. Resting Awareness: Instead of focusing on visualization or the breath, doing this technique involves letting the mind rest. When thoughts enter your mind, they no longer pull you away from the present moment or distract you, they just leave.

7. Body Scan: Using this meditation technique to connect with the mind, body and soul involves scanning your body from head to toe. In doing this you become aware of any sensations, aches, or discomforts in your body that may be indicators of anxiety or stress.

8. Reflection: This is a mindfulness technique where you ask yourself questions like: what are you grateful for today? Become aware of your feelings that arise when you focus on the question.

1. It’s a way of living: Mindfulness is more than just a practice. Being mindful brings us awareness and caring into everything we do: while eliminating needless stress and anxiety. Being mindful makes our lives better.

2. Mindfulness is transformative because anyone can do it: Being mindful cultivates universal human qualities and does not require you to change yourself or your beliefs. It's easy to learn and practice and everyone can benefit from doing it.

3. You don’t need to change: Mindfulness cultivates and recognizes who we are at our root core as human beings. Because of this we don't have to change who we are or become something we are not.

4. Mindfulness is not a special added thing we do: All of us already have the capacity to be present in the "now," and doesn’t require us to change who we are. With practice, we can cultivate these innate qualities that not only benefit ourselves but everyone around us: our loved ones, friends, neighbors, co workers, associates and the whole universe at large

5. Being mindful is evidence-based: There are positive benefits for our own: happiness, health and relationships with others.

6. It sparks innovation: Our world is increasingly complex and stressful, being mindful can lead to effective responses that aren't based on emotions or feelings.

7. Mindfulness is familiar: Being mindful is already familiar to us because it’s our natural state of being: what we do and how we already are.
