How To Turn Your Pain Into Positive Growth

During our lifetimes, we all experience pain. Disappointment, loss and heartache are all part of the human condition.


It can be hard to see how you can ever recover from your pain, when you're in the depths of it. At the time, it seems unthinkable that you might one day be grateful for your current disappointments.


We always have a choice, even in our pain we have a choice to make. You can either take the opportunity and grow from it, or let it consume you. The choice is yours. It's not a simple process, but it is well worth it as you gain clarity, strength, resilience and take your power back. Oftentimes, it's our painful experiences in life that push us towards our greatest personal breakthroughs in life.


Below are 3 things you can do in order to change your pain into an opportunity for personal growth:


1. Look for the lesson


You need to focus your mind on looking for the lesson, in order to grow from a painful experience. By choosing this, you have a growth-mindset.


If you look hard enough you will be able to uncover a lesson, no matter the situation or circumstances. If you are recovering from a heartbreak, maybe it can teach you to respect yourself more so that other people don't walk all over you. If you are sick, maybe it can teach you to slow it down and take time for yourself. If you lost your job, maybe you were on the wrong career path and this time off will help you align with your soul purpose.


By looking for the lesson, you are taking your power back. If you want to step up and grow, you can't wallow in your pain. Only you have the power to look for the lesson in your current situation. And by doing so, you can identify the root cause of the pain. This can prevent this same situation from reoccurring if you learn from the lesson.



2. Explore your feelings

In order to get in touch with your emotions, you have to be willing to feel them. You have to dig deep into where the pain is coming from to understand this hurt. You need to find a way to explore and understand your feelings. There are various methods to do this depending on your personal preferences. I would recommend journaling or taking it out with a coach or counselor.


It is easy to say you are hurt from a heartbreak, but what part of the heartbreak is causing you the pain? Is it because you don't feel worthy of love? That you feel like you failed your previous partner? Are you grieving for a future that no longer exists? Or that you won't be able to open yourself up to love again? Work through and express your emotions until you can find the root cause. If you want to grow psychologically and emotionally, you need to have personal understanding and self reflection of past experiences.


3. Resolve to change

When you can acknowledge the lesson learned from your current situation, you need to resolve to change. You can't grow without any action on your end. And nobody can take this action other than you. You have to be willing to see and do things differently. By doing this, you can turn your pain into your greatest power.


Maybe you need to focus your attention on yourself, self love and being whole alone, before you start looking for another romantic partner. Or you need to prioritize your time and energy, so that the things that really matter to you will be a priority. Your actions will always be personal to you and what your current reality is.


Real self growth comes from your willingness to change. By using your pain as a personal growth tool, you need to do and see things differently. You can't expect changes by doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.
