How to Change Negative Thinking Patterns?



Did you know we have up to 12,000- 60,000 thoughts a day? Out of all these thoughts; 95 % of these thoughts are repetitive and 80% are negative. All of our repetitive thoughts are based on our past experiences, fears, phobias, insecurities, and previous life experiences.


How many times have you caught yourself behaving in the same non-productive or counterproductive ways? It is true that our thoughts can imprison us. They can manifest into a fear of not being good enough or worthy for XYZ.


It may seem like our thoughts come out of nowhere, but they come from our conditioned patterns of thoughts which could be based on our programming, limiting beliefs, negative thought patterns and societies standards just to name a few. Since we are all connected, some of these thoughts can come from the collective consciousness, so they aren’t even our “thoughts.”


This is why it is so important for us to focus on positivity. I am a huge believer that gratitude is the gateway to bliss. It is through gratitude that we can learn to appreciate everything that we have. We can then reprogram ourselves to think positively and see the best in every situation vs the worst case scenario.


I personally incorporate gratitude into my daily rituals and have seen profound improvements with my negative thought patterns. I am able to catch myself earlier when I do get into negativity or pessimism. I can then reroute myself back into seeing from a positive viewpoint with my awareness.





I start everyday with my morning ritual of writing in my gratitude journal. I write the first 10 things that pop into my mind about everything that I am grateful that I have. It sets up the tone of my day on a positive note and puts me in a good frame of mind for the rest of the day. It also helps me to remember all of my blessings in my everyday life.


Just by writing what we are grateful for, we can rewire the neutral pathways that regulate our thoughts, feelings, emotions and reactions. What does this mean? We can create new neural pathways which are like roads in our brain that lead us to more positivity, joy and gratitude vs anger, fear and anxiety.


As someone who has been a pessimist my whole life, I am here to tell you that you can reprogram yourself to think differently. It takes time and dedication but it can be done. With awareness and mindfulness you will be able to shift from a pessimistic point of view to an optimistic point of view. Not to say that you won't have negative thoughts and feelings come up, but when you do you are more aware of them and are able to shift and move into a positive perspective quicker.


Your past does not have to dictate your future. You are the writer, creator, and director of your story. What kind of story are you going to create? Is it going to be a positive one? Or is it going to be a negative one? The choice is yours. The only person who has control over this is you. And the only person who can change this is you. You have the golden ticket. All you have to do is be mindful of where you put your time and energy into.
