What Is The Goal Of Meditation?

What Is the Goal of Meditation?

In our current fast paced lives, even seasoned meditators find it difficult to meditate on a daily basis. Most of us have enough time to go shopping, meet with friends, have a coffee, watch TV and do everything else. Meditation is a valuable tool for our emotional, mental, physical and spiritual well being and we need to treat it as a priority and incorporate it into our daily lives.

The goal of meditation isn't to enter an eternal bliss bubble- the goal is to improve your well being and ultimately end suffering. There are many holistic benefits of meditation for everyone to enjoy. Even after only a few weeks of daily meditation, new meditators have positive and rewarding experiences. If you are finding meditation to be a strenuous experience, you have to shift your expectations.

Below are some excellent reasons why you should devote your energy and time to meditation on a daily basis:

Goodwill

Compassion and meditation go hand in hand. When we are mindful of where we put our time and energy into we become interconnected with everything and everyone. This interconnectedness naturally builds compassion, understanding and empathy.

Mindfulness meditation.... has lately been promoted for its abilities to enhance the brain and heal the body, but many of its most experienced teachers argue that its fundamental purpose involves the soul... meditation’s effects on memory, health, and cognitive skills, though positive, were traditionally considered secondary benefits by Buddhist sages. The primary objective of calming the mind and heightening attention was to attain a form of enlightenment that would lead to a deep, abiding compassion and resulting beneficence.”~ David DeSteno

live in the present moment

Meditation practice grounds you in the present "now." Your self awareness of not only yourself but the whole Universe at large will improve. Because of this, you will be calmer and more level headed. It will be easier for you to acknowledge your feelings, memories, sensation and thoughts without becoming attached to them. Doing so will help you live in the present moment and realize that everyday is a blessing.

When you are tuned into the present you are less likely to become overwhelmed by stress, anxiety, or negative energy. Mindfulness meditation actually rewires the brain. The parts of the brain that are responsible for depression, poor concentration and anxiety shrink while the parts associated with happiness, bliss, joy, compassion, cognition, calmness and empathy increase in size.

Inner peace and harmony

Your body, mind and soul store a lot of junk on a daily basis. This could be negative thoughts, emotions or energies. Without regular meditation, this junk can accumulate to toxic levels. When you don't process where your depression, stress or anxiety is coming from you can easily become overwhelmed. You can counter this toxicity by meditating regularly which will instill a deep sense of peace, tranquility and calmness.

Better sleep

Within one month of starting meditation it helps to reduce insomnia, depression and fatigue.

With the stress and anxiety in our current fast paced lives, many people suffer from a wide array of sleep disorders. When you de-cluttered your mind on a daily basis, you promote better sleep.

Health and happiness

All of us are looking for happy, healthy, rewarding lives. Many look for happiness outside of ourselves: material things, relationships, careers, status, money, power, fame, etc. These external sources of happiness are short lived as external circumstances are always changing. For example: one day we are head over heels in love, the next day we are not. One day we have lots of money in the bank, the next day it's all gone. It is our minds that are our only true and lasting source of happiness. Practicing meditation helps us access the mind's inner wealth where we don't need outer circumstances to fulfill us.

From Another Realm

Face whatever is holding you back head on and it no longer has power over you, you have power over it! Awareness and anything can't co exist. Awareness is more powerful than your ego, your emotions, your thoughts and your feelings. Awareness is what gets you back home to your soul purpose.

You can use your pain and turn it into power. If you are willing to work on where your pain comes from, the lesson to be learned and turn your knowledge into action, you can use your suffering to turn you into a stronger and wiser person! I look forward to working with you on your spiritual journey.
